One thing you may not know about Jasmine Photography is that I also shoot commercial work. I don’t advertise it, so the shoots I do are mainly by word of mouth. I really enjoy shooting interiors and doing macro work on things like jewelry. My approach to these shoots is similar to how I shoot people and events, I like to work with the available light source. I like spaces and objects to be shown in their true form, not stylized or photoshopped so much that it changes it. This is why natural light is so wonderful. I always enjoy heading over to Big Girl Workshop to photograph Sharon’s new jewelry designs. She has so many affordable and cute necklaces that you can think of so many people that would want one! Great for gifts. Here are a few of Sharon’s latest and newest designs. You can see more of her work online at Big Girl Workshop.
Day after session
I had such a great time working with Hillary and Zac on their wedding day. I thought it would be fun to do a day after session downtown. We met up at the fountain across from the Kelleher Auditorium. It was a bit chilly out on the late fall day but we kept it moving so Hillary wouldn’t get to cold. Borrowing a fur coat of mine (from when I was younger) to keep her warm in a few pics. Zac doesn’t like having his picture taken, but you’d never know that in the photos. He looks strong and dapper in his suit. I love day after sessions because it’s a fun way to push myself as an artist. It’s also a great way to get to wear your wedding gown again and dress it up with funky accessories you may not have worn on your wedding day.
Enjoy the pics.
Quick note, I’ll be on vacation for a few days. This weekend I’m heading out to visit a dear friend of mine from college in Park City, UT. I’m going during the first weekend of Sundance and am hoping to see some celeb’s!
My Portland Photographer Blog
I think I’ve mentioned this blog to you before but a new feature has been added to it that is worth mentioning. If you haven’t been to the My Portland Photographer blog yet, take a moment to check it out. It’s a collaboration of twenty of Portland’s most experienced and talented wedding photographers. Everyday during the week four of us will post a single image we have taken at an event and a brief note about the image. I feel honored to be a part of this group and am friends with almost all of the photographers on there. If you are looking for a wedding photographer this is a great site to start out at. You can find some images that stand out to you and then click on the profile of the photographer at the bottom of the site to see all their posts.
The new feature that was added not too long ago is the ability to do a date check on the site. You can enter your wedding date and a list of photographers who are currently available will pop up. How cool is that? You can find the link to the date check at the bottom of the page as well. I post an image every Wednesday if you’d like to follow my posts.
Rebecca + Joshua’s Wedding
I’m a pretty lucky girl. I have a job that I love and get to work with and photograph couples that are stylish and fun. How great is that? Well, Rebecca and Joshua had a one of those great days on December 13th, 2009. The rain held off long enough for us to sneak outside in the cold and take some pics with the beautiful Best Car in Town outside of the historic Old Laurelhurst Church. Just in case it did rain Rebecca rented some large white umbrellas. I decided it would be fun to use them for a few pics even though it was dry. After braving the cold, the couple hopped into the rolls royce and headed over to Gracie’s at Hotel DeLuxe. Guests were mingling, laughing and having a great time. Then everyone headed into the beautiful Gracie’s dining room for a lovely meal. From the photo guest book to the customized Jones Soda bottles, everything looked amazing! The lovely floral arrangement were done by East West Floral Arts. I just love the mini frames for table numbers. Rebecca & Joshua are such a sweet and amazing couple. I wish them the best! Enjoy the pics.
A new year and The Art of Weddings!
Happy 2010 everyone! I hope you had a great holiday vacation with family and friends. I’ve been a bit behind on posting here this past week because I’ve been busy organizing and putting together the final details for the upcoming Art of Weddings event. Planning an event like this is so similar to putting together a wedding. There are a ton of small details that need to be done at different intervals and my stress level varies from day to day!
This week is dedicated to all those final details and finding some time to put my display together in between communicating with all the vendors. I should be sleeping right now but I can’t! Tomorrow morning myself and a few other vendors such as Portland Photo Booth, Amai Unmei, West Coast Rentals, Studio Del Fiore and more will be waking up at 4am for a live taping with Koin 6 news.
We’ll be on air from 5-7am randomly showing some highlights of what will be on display thursday nite at Portland Center Stage. If you are still looking for a venue site, you have to come check out this space. It’s so great. Wide open, with a great view from both levels and a mix of modern and historic architecture.
Tickets are for sale online now until Jan. 6th. Then it will be cash only at the door! To buy your tickets now visit Art of Weddings. Hope to see you there!
